“The main interest of my work is not concerned with the treatment of neurosis but rather with the approach to the numinous. But the fact is that the approach to the numinous is the real therapy and inasmuch as you attain to the numinous experiences, you are released from the curse of pathology. Even the very disease takes on a numinous character.”

About the course content:
We are fascinated by the process of psychotherapy. Since its inception in 46 AD with the Asclepiads, we have experienced treatment as either truly transformative, good enough, or utterly disastrous. The pioneers in the field have sought to understand something of those inherent, archetypal processes which create conditions for healing, occurring within one of the most perplexing and transformative relationships humanity has ever known.
This therapeutic relationship is inexorably entwined in psyche’s dance, choreographed for the purpose of manifesting archetypal dynamics into matter. Here the alchemical mystery is a living reality, and the findings of the New Sciences on inter-connectivity, and the collapsing of past, present and future, guide these dynamics. Each expresses the Self's artistry for the bringing of archetypal dynamics into the material domain.
It is this expression of Psyche in Matter and archetype made manifest that allowed Teilhard De Chardin to understand that "Matter is spirit moving slowly enough to be seen", and that spirit is made visible through the creation of archetypal patterns. Jung too grasped this unified backdrop when writing that: "Since psyche and matter are contained in one and the same world… it is not only possible but fairly probable…that psyche and matter are two different aspects of one and the same thing.” (C. G. Jung CW vol VIII P. 215).
It is the actual client-therapist relationship that becomes the canvas upon which Psyche paints its story. Now, as the archetype begins to influence and literally structure the form evolving in the therapeutic field, the process begins and the mystery of healing unfolds.
While we often think of the therapeutic ground rules and conditions of treatment as static and perhaps some outdated set of guidelines, they are in fact archetypal energetic centers drawing the transpersonal drama into the therapeutic field. Here the archetypal devouring mother or father, the Puer or Puella archetypes, as well as the manic and other forms of defenses are expressed and re-created by the very conditions of treatment.
No longer are the enactments based in a transference reaction or iatrogenic. Instead, they reflect the self's understanding that, in order for healing to occur, the archetype must be experienced as a living reality within treatment.
Ultimately, however, we must acknowledge that psychotherapy is a mystery as well as an archetypal and spiritual experience worthy of our attention, dedication, and perhaps even our awe.
