The Art of Fairy Tale Analysis:
Exploring the hidden places and secret treasures of psyche.
“Fairy tale interpretation is an art, an art that must be practiced” ― Marie Louise von Franz
Marie Louise von Franz, a collaborator and colleague of C. G. Jung for nearly thirty years was often heard to say that fairy tales were all the psychology the common folk needed to live. She was known to chide her students, if they could not explain their grand theories to the green grocer or the waitstaff at the Küsnacht cafe, then they had not sufficiently integrated their learning. Her study of fairy tales occupied much of her life, secured her legacy, and grounded her teachings in the language and sensibilities of the common folk. Recognizing fairy tales as the skeleton or blueprint of the psyche, Marie Louise von Franz analyzed thousands of fairy tales to explore and map the archetypal dimensions of the psyche. At the Assisi Institute, the study of archetypal patterns is our passion and we are dedicated to offering and practicing the art of pattern analysis. Nowhere can we do that with more flare, fun, and affection than with Marie Louise von Franz guiding the vessel as we enter the depths and answer the unfathomable call of soul.
Join Jungian Analyst, Muriel McMahon for a four part seminar on the art of fairytale analysis. Sharing approaches developed from her own 7 year study of fairytales in Toronto, France, and in Zurich, at the Jung Institutes, participants will learn and practice the art of fairytale analysis. Marie Louise von Franz defined archetypes as nature’s constants. She promoted the study of fairy tales to help us with understanding psychological processes and show us ways to integrate both our animal and human nature. Selecting tales that amplify the wisdom inherent in our instinctual nature and guiding our exploration with a solid foundation in analytical psychology, this seminar series will court your sensibilities toward falling in love with fairy tales and the wisdom they offer.
