“The main interest of my work is not the treatment of neurosis, but rather with the approach to the numinous … the approach to the numinous is the real therapy."
(C. G. Jung Letters 1, pg. 37)
It was Jung’s hunger for a relationship to soul that motivated him to write these words about the ultimate and most important aspect of the therapeutic relationship. In many mysterious ways, Psyche, archetypes, and complexes create opportunities for transcendence and healing while also inhibiting our engagement with a meaningful life. Now building on the work of the Clinical Certificate Course Level I training, participants will deepen their understanding of the archetypal and unconscious dynamics influencing the therapeutic relationship, and the life process. To do so, we will take an in-depth look at the meaning and function of the conditions of treatment, unconscious communication (including level 1, and especially level 2 derivatives), and the personal and archetypal significance of the client-therapist relationship with special attention to how this interactional field serves as the canvas upon which Psyche makes manifest the client’s archetypal issues.
In understanding these fascinating dynamics responsible for the generation of form emerging within the client-therapist relationship, we begin to understand what moved De Chardin to write that; “Matter is Spirit moving slowly enough to be seen” and Ervin Laszlo to realize that; “Field precedes form.” In addition, we will look at the activation of the client’s defense mechanisms and how these inevitably and unfortunately re-create the trauma the client is seeking to avoid. Lastly, we will look at dreams as an objective commentary on the nature of the treatment.
We will alternate theoretical and clinical presentations, with live supervision of participant’s work. In this way we will see and feel the living reality of archetypes, and the stunningly accurate and profound nature of unconscious communication, the above-mentioned clinical dynamics through the lens of actual case material.
This opportunity to literally see the contours and workings of archetypes in matter as manifested in these therapeutic dynamics, offers a promise of healing, and freedom from the shackles of pain, and ultimately, a profound experience of the numinous.
We truly hope that you will enroll in this Advanced Clinical training and continue developing your expertise in this emerging field of Archetypal Pattern Analysis.
