The Voice of Psyche:
Unconscious Experience, Communication and Archetypal Dynamics in Treatment

-A 4-Month Intensive Clinical Training Seminar-

Dr. Michael Conforti, Jungian Analyst

January 8th - May 7th, 2026
Weekly, 15 Thursdays 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM US Eastern Time (NYC)
+
2 Saturday Intensives, 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM (NYC)

March 14th & April 25th
“The main interest of my work is not the treatment of neurosis, but rather with the approach to the numinous …  But the fact is that the approach to the numinous is the real therapy … and as you attain to the numinous you are released from the curse of pathology”
(C. G. Jung Letters 1, pg. 37)

Life and unconscious dynamics create opportunities for healing while also inhibiting our engagement with a bigger life.  It was Jung’s hunger for this relationship to a rich and meaningful life that motivated him to write these words about therapy.

From the miraculous birth of a child to the magnificence of great art, to those seemingly endless repetitions of pain and disappointments, each emerges in response to something very personal while guided by unseen, innate archetypal processes.  The discovery of these innate ordering processes within the unconscious informs our clinical work, in seeing that these dynamics literally structure the interactions actions occurring between client and therapist.  Such archetypal, formative dynamics are most active in the beginning of treatment, when the client and therapist “unconsciously agree” on the therapeutic ground rules.  Working behind the veil of conscious awareness, the unconscious creates conditions of treatment allowing for the manifestation of archetypal dynamics which become a living reality within the treatment. While these re-creations are potentially generative, clinicians need to understand these dynamics, otherwise these replicative dramas will quickly catapult the client back into this Sisyphean struggle, giving increased strength to  the trauma and its deleterious effect in the client’s life.

It is the ongoing presence of these dynamics that moved De Chardin to write that; “Matter is Spirit moving slowly enough to be seen” and Ervin Laszlo to realize that; “Field precedes form.”

Since time immemorial, humanity has sought to understand the nature of these emergent dynamics and processes that moves matter and life. D’Arcy Thompson, (1972),  took on this quest and writes; “The form of … matter, and the changes of form … apparent in its movement … are due to the action of force ...   (1947, Pg 16).

The “forces” driving these therapeutic, interactional dynamics are a portrait of the movement of archetypal dynamics now creating form within the therapeutic relationship.  This opportunity to literally see the contours and workings of these issues, manifested in these therapeutic dynamics, offers a promise of healing, and a freedom from the shackles of such pain, and ultimately, a profound spiritual experience.

Learning Objectives:
  • To learn the implications involved in the concepts of Transference and Countertransference
  • To learn how the concept of fields, first introduced by Kurt Lewin and extended by Ervin Laszlo and others in the New Sciences is pivotal for our understanding of patient-therapist interactions
  • To learn about the importance of the first session in therapy
  • To learn the function of replicative dynamics in treatment
  • To learn the nature and dynamics of those processes inherent in treatment which create entrained responses between patient and therapist
  • Learn about the various dimensions of Unconscious Communication
  • Learn about unconscious representation of traumatic memories
  • Learn to recognize and work with the mobilization of the clients defense mechanisms
  • Formulating and making interventions of conscious and unconscious material
  • Learning to evaluate client’s unconscious responses to interventions
  • Learning how to evaluate the effectiveness of our interventions
