“In the Tower at Bollingen it is as if one lived many centuries simultaneously”…my ancestors’ souls are sustained by the atmosphere of the house.. I (try responding to)… the questions that their lives once left behind, (as) it is as if a silent, greater family, stretching down the centuries, were peopling the house”. — C.G. Jung
Stories of being lost and the need to find our way home remains one of humanities most important personal and archetypal needs. References to home, is a universal motif in fairy takes and fables which speaks to this need as a profound inner necessity.  In these stories, we often hear how one loses their way in the woods, and must learn to listen to the enchanted creatures of the forest who show us the way home.  So too, we search for that home within which to raise our family, and the hopes that one day we will hear our child saying those soul soothing words, ”this is my home"!!!! words that will surely melt our heart. And later in life, we seek a very different sort of home, perhaps smaller, and one closer to our children and grandchildren and where we begin living with the reality that this may just be our final resting place.  Going home has many shapes and forms. One that I will never forget, are my mother’s last words before dying, crying out, “Momma I am coming home”.  From our youth to the end of life, we hold to the sacredness of home.

While a sense of being home within one’s self, within a marriage, a career, is absolutely vital, at some point we have all felt the terrible sense of being lost, disoriented and adrift. At such times all we long for is the safety of being home, and when in the grips of such a possession and trauma,  we will take the next flight or train, or whatever it takes to go home.

Home is a symbolic expression of that place where we are most alive, safe and able to live in relationship to soul.  However, this journey also involves leaving home.  Exile from Paradise, to the terror of ongoing deportations, we are painfully aware of this archetypal need to leave the familiar in search of that domain where soul resides.  Perhaps this is why for the sailor lost at sea, is comforted just knowing that the light house continuously illuminates the dark night with its beacon carrying both a sense of direction and the sailor’s hope of returning home.  Grace remains as an ever present reality, reminding us that the soul never tires of wanting us to go home.

But psyche speaks the language of the Antique Soul, of eternity.  To understand her guiding messages, we need to learn this language and the innate meaning of our dreams, fantasies, and even projections of love onto another, as the soul’s way of helping us find our way back home. This conference brings together a truly illustrative faculty of Jungian Analysts, theologians and scholars each of whom have dedicated their life to learning this language, and have cultivated the attitude needed to receive what may be one of the greatest blessings of our life.   Please join us for this week in Assisi, Italy one of the most beautiful and sacred places in the world.  And sitting around the Italian dinner table with all of us together is a delicious and beautiful coming home!
